Graduated as an urban geographer, since 2007 he has been the director of the Museum of the History of the City of Barcelona (MUHBA). He has lectured at the Institute of Education Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), at the Barri Besòs Institute and in the Study Program of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), while collaborating with the Zurich School of the Arts and the History Seminar of the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona (AHCB). He has directed Aula Barcelona and the Urban Majorities project of the Antoni Tàpies Foundation and has been a member of the Industrial Heritage Group of the Forum de la Ribera del Besòs.

As a researcher, he has worked in the fields of urban history, urbanism and education and has received the Pau Vila, Barcelona City and Bonaplata awards. He has written and edited several articles and books on city history and metropolitan transformations, heritage and public space, image and landscape of the city, and education and social change. He is a member of the international board of the European Urban History Association.

In recent years, he has focused on the role of city museums, creating in 2010 the City History Museums and Research Network of Europe and working with CAMOC, ICOM's committee on the city and its people. In 2019 he was appointed judge for the European Museum of the Year Award, presented by the European Museum Forum under the auspices of the Council of Europe.
