José Antonio Garrido

Jose Antonio Garrido received his master’s and PhD degrees in telecommunication engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 1996 and 2000, respectively. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a postdoc at the Walter Schottky Institute, Technische Universität München (Germany), before becoming the leader of its Functional Carbon Materials Group. He attained his habilitation in experimental physics at this university in 2010 and from 2011 to 2015 held a lecturer (privatdozent) position at its department of physics. In 2015 Prof. Garrido joined the ICN2 as ICREA research professor and leader of the Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group. Since 2017, he is also the vice-director and head of the Strategy Development Office. He is co- leader of the Biomedical Technologies Technologies work package of the European Graphene Flagship initiative, and is the coordinator of the EU FET-Proactive project BrainCom. He is being co-author of more than 127 papers, 3 patents and 1 book. His research activities cut across different scientific aspects, from fundamentals (physics of devices and semiconductors) to materials (CVD growth of graphene and 2D materials, surface functionalization, advanced characterization), through devices (fabrication technology, nanofabrication), and to applications (biosensors, neural implants and biomedical technologies)
