Occupying three historic buildings from the late 19th century, the Ciutadella Campus of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), which concentrates the university's social and human sciences studies, has filled the Vila Olímpica neighborhood with students since 1998. One of these buildings is the unique Dipòsit de les Aigües, of exposed brick, with impressive arcades of great height and today transformed into a magnificent library. Designed by the architect Josep Fontserè, it is a construction identical to a Roman prototype, and Antonio Gaudí contributed as an assistant when he was still a student. The other two buildings, called Jaume I and Roger de Llúria, were originally military barracks built in 1887.
