Located in the emblematic 15th century Gothic building, which until 1926 was the headquarters of the Santa Creu Hospital in Barcelona, the Biblioteca de Catalunya now has a collection of more than four and a half million copies. The institution's mission is to collect, conserve and disseminate Catalan bibliographic production and that related to the Catalan linguistic sphere, to ensure the conservation and dissemination of the bibliographic heritage and to maintain its status as a centre for universal scientific research and consultation, both in the analogue and digital context.
