This new NEO session explores the role of machines, and in particular digital technologies, in contemporary art making. Are digital media still simply instruments at the service of artists, or have they finally acquired creative autonomy? In order to investigate these questions, three different modes of human-machine collaboration will be presented that are very prominent on the cutting-edge art scene.
One is Marco Mezquida's duo with an artificial intelligence system. Another is a generative audiovisual installation by Santi Vilanova and, finally, the live code writing to generate music and visuals that Linalab and Turbulente have created specifically for the technical conditions of the Planetarium of the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. To facilitate understanding and discussion of the proposals presented, some will be complemented by a conversation between the artists (Live coding and Piano + AI).
