Economic and social inequality negatively affects almost every aspect of human well-being, as well as the health of the biosphere. Understanding its origins and historical causes is crucial for planning our future.
Researchers from different disciplines, ranging from game theory and complexity to human genetics, have begun to understand the phenomenon and its implications. These findings provide the basis for understanding the development of societies and our past, and will be instrumental in preventing the growth of future inequalities, amplified by the effects of climate change and overexploitation of the biosphere.
