Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM) of the CSIC. He studies ocean circulation and its influence on planetary metabolism at many different spatial and temporal scales. He considers the Earth as a living being, an optimized complex system of which we are part and which must be listened to and loved, especially in these times of global and climate change. He has supervised more than 20 doctoral theses, published 150 scientific articles and edited four books, and has participated in numerous oceanographic campaigns.
