Jordi Sánchez Navarro
Expert in science fiction and fantastic genre cinema and comics
Professor and researcher at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) where he currently directs the studies of Information and Communication Sciences and works on issues related to the transformations of narrative forms in contemporary cinema, innovation in audiovisual entertainment and the links between playful culture and the fantasy genre.
Since 1989 he has written in several media about comics, cinema and television. He was director of the Barcelona International Comic Fair (1997-2000) and deputy director of the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia-Sitges (2001-2004), with which he currently collaborates as programmer of Anima't, the animation section.
He is also the author, among others, of the books Tim Burton: Cuentos en sombras (2000), Freaks en acción: Álex de la Iglesia o el cine como fuga (2005), Narrativa audiovisual (2006) and Pantalla rasgada. Quince conversaciones con cineastas y escritores sobre sueños y cine (2014), and has coordinated collective books such as Fanáticos. La cultura hacen (2013), Aprovecha el tiempo y juega (2009), Realidad virtual. Visionas sobre el ciberespacio (2004) and Imágenes para la sospecha. Falsos documentales y otras piruetas de la no-ficción (2001). He has given numerous courses and lectures on fantastic cinema, science fiction, comics and, especially, history and aesthetics of animated film.
