Full-time researcher at the Interdisciplinary Internet Institute (IN3) of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). His field of research is social studies in science and technology (STS) and, in particular, the study of new forms of technical democracy. His work deals with forms of social experimentation, citizen mobilization and public debate generated in situations of great uncertainty, such as ecological crises, disasters, emergencies and public controversies. 

He holds a BSc and PhD in Psychology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). From 2002 to 2016 he has been a professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the UOC. Since the beginning of 2016, he coordinates the research group Care and Preparedness in the Network Society (CareNet) at the IN3. He has been a visiting researcher at Loughborough University, at the Centre for the Study of Invention and Social Process, at Goldsmiths College London, and at the Institute of Sociology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. 

He is a member of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) and the Society for the Social Studies of Science (4S). In 2014 he received the Amsterdamska Award from the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology for the book Disasters and Politics: Materials, Experiments and Preparedness (Wiley/Blackwell, 2014), co-edited with Manuel Tironi and Michael Guggenheim. In 2018 he received the 4S David Edge Award for the article Healing, Knowing, Enduring: Care and Politics in Damaged Worlds, published in The Sociological Review in 2017.
