Mara Dierssen
She has a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Cantabria, with postdoctoral research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is a researcher at the Centre for Genomic Regulation of Barcelona, where she heads the Cell Neurobiology and Systems Group. She began studying the snail’s brain and continues today researching the brain’s learning and memory mechanisms, and how they change in the case of disability, especially in Down’s Syndrome. Her laboratory studies the plasticity of the brain and its link with activity, and how the surroundings can influence cognition.
