THE GROWTH OF CITIES
Our intuition tells us that the growth of cities is an extremely complicated phenomenon with many variables, but the scientists who have studied how it works have discovered parallels that suggest universal laws. Could we therefore talk about the physics of the city?
With very simple computer simulated models, we can observe these laws of the growth of cities. In this session we wish to touch on this area of knowledge, its applications and the hugely important issues that it enables us to tackle. With the simulator that has been developed by Evolution of Technology Lab, we shall simulate the development of new streets and buildings in a virtual city that we shall also compare to real cities.
