Help us make graphene!
Workshop by Gemma Rius, Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC).
Graphene is an incredible material: flexible, resistant, conductive... Take part in this simulation of how to work in a protected and uncontaminated cleanroom environment, learn how to laminate graphene using electrochemistry and discover how it works as a current conductor.
The fantastic properties of minerals
Demonstration by Anna Crespi, Judith Oró and Roberta Ceravola, Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC).
Get to know minerals through some of their most surprising properties such as fluorescence, magnetism and electrical conductivity. You will also discover these properties in objects very close to us, such as the fluorescence of plant chlorophyll or the magnetism of a match.
Quarks: the building blocks of matter
Workshop led by Íñigo Asiáin, Marc Illa, Glòria Montaña and Assumpta Parreño, Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics (UB).
Learn about and identify the fundamental particles that make up matter with a three-dimensional puzzle designed by CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics. Through this activity, you can learn about the laws that allow their pieces, the quarks, to combine to form the protons and neutrons that make up atomic nuclei.
