ICREA research professor, she currently leads her research group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). Her research is focused on understanding how our organs and tissues develop in order to know why they stop performing when we age or have diseases.

Making unique use of stem cells, she has described for the first time how to generate human micro-organs in the laboratory. This knowledge has enabled her team, together with pioneering researchers in the fields of virology and immunology, to discover how SARS-CoV-2 infects our cells and to validate and identify drugs to fight covid-19.

Her work in regenerative medicine has been published in the most prestigious scientific journals and her research has been funded by agencies of excellence (European Research Council-ERC in two calls, ERC Starting Grant and ERC Consolidator Grant, among others).

She has received several national and international awards for young talent and important prizes and mentions for her research in regenerative medicine. She has participated and/or led more than 300 activities to promote scientific vocation in children and participates in different mentoring programs for women scientists. She was curator of the first Biennial City and Science, in 2019.
