Research Professor at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC). He obtained a Master's degree in Computer Vision and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). In 1999 he was a research fellow at the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From 2001 to 2003 he was part of the iSOCO research laboratory, the first spin-off of CSIC, leading the application of artificial intelligence to the development of electronic trading products.

He has participated in multiple international research projects and has published more than two hundred papers in international journals and conferences. He is a Fellow of the European Association of Artificial Intelligence (AEPIA). His current research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence techniques to facilitate cooperative learning in the classroom and collective decision making in citizen participation platforms. In addition, he investigates how to develop intelligent systems with the ability to reason ethically.
