Josep Maria Martorell
Physicist and associate director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center
He holds a degree in Physics by the University of Barcelona (UB) and a PhD in Computer Engineering by the Ramon Llull University (URL). He has developed his career in the field of academic and scientific management, both in the university and governmental environment, including five years as general director of Research of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Since April 2016 he has been associate director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), a research center linked to the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) with more than 700 employees and which hosts the MareNostrum supercomputer. He has also completed various business and management training programs at ESADE (VV-2004) and IESE (PDD-2009), and has extensive experience as a business angel and mentor in various technology startups created in Barcelona. He is a member of the boards of the Barcelona Institute of Political Economy and Governance (IPEG) and the BarcelonaBeta Foundation for Alzheimer's Research. He is also a member of several committees of European scientific institutions.
