Jose A. Garrido
Engineer specialized in science and technology of new materials
PhD in Telecommunications Engineering by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Postdoc at the Walter Schottky Institute (WSI) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), he obtained his habilitation in Experimental Physics and was an associate professor for eight years. In 2016 he joined as ICREA professor at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), where he leads the Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group. Since 2017 he is also deputy director and has been coordinator of the ICN2 Strategic Development office.
His research focuses on the science and technology of new electronic materials, with a strong emphasis on graphene, and on the applications of these materials in neural interfaces and biomedical technologies. He is coordinator of numerous European and national projects dedicated to the development of new electronic technologies for the monitoring and modulation of neural activity. He is co-founder of InBrain Neuroelectronics, a startup that develops neuroelectronic therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative brain diseases, and where he is scientific director.
