Ignasi Ribas
Astrophysicist with expertise in exoplanets
Director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and professor at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC). PhD in Physics from the University of Barcelona (UB), he carried out a postdoctoral stay at Villanova University (VU) in Pennsylvania with a Fulbright scholarship.
His work is mainly focused on the discovery and characterization of exoplanets. He leads instrumentation projects on Earth and in outer space to discover new planets similar to our own and to search for life in the future. He has senior responsibilities in different space missions and astronomical instruments and also coordinates the development of nanosatellite projects as part of his role as director of IEEC.
He has published more than 230 research papers in international journals, including Nature and Science. He has been a member of the Astronomy Working Group of the European Space Agency, chairman of the International Astronomical Union Division G on Stellar Physics and advisor to the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He actively participates in numerous science popularization activities.
