Helen Cole
Researcher in environmental justice, sustainability and health
Postdoctoral researcher at the Barcelona Laboratory for Environmental Justice and Sustainability, a group affiliated with the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and also affiliated with the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute. She holds a PhD in Public Health from the City University of New York. She also holds a master's degree in Behaviour and Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Drawing from the fields of sociology, critical geography and urban planning, her research challenges traditional public health perspectives by questioning and assessing the long-term impacts that urban interventions may have on social justice (e.g. assessing the potential environmental/green gentrification resulting from urban greening). His current research explores whether healthier cities are also more equitable. In doing so, he places health interventions in a broad social and political context.
