WHAT IS THE NANOSCALE AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT US?

Did you know that fingernails grow at a rate of one nanometre per second? And that a nanometre is 25,000 times smaller than the diameter of a hair? If you can imagine the difference in size between a golf ball and the planet Earth, then you can also understand the difference between a nanometre and a metre!

In this workshop we shall discover the fascinating world of the nanoscale. We will explore the scales of measurement in order to understand the size of nano-objects and learn about the instruments that allow us to observe and study them. We shall see how the nanoscale properties of a material are reflected in its macroscopic behaviour, and we shall discover some of its applications. A fascinating workshop to discover the nano- world with researchers from the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2).
