BESÒS: A NOBLE ECOSYSTEM

The discovery of the bacterium Dehalogenimonas in the sediments of the river Besòs by the team of researchers of BioremUAB (2017 SGR014), of the UAB’s Department of Chemical Engineering, has been crucial for the development of a project in which the river becomes a historical, natural and urban witness of the city of Barcelona, a collection of materials and elements, a constantly changing amalgam that makes pollution and regeneration its strong point.

DUAE is a collaborative platform formed by Luna Coppola and Silvia Campidelli that works in contemporary visual research. In the installation “Besòs: A Noble Ecosystem”, they approach the river Besòs from an artistic and multidisciplinary point of view, exploring the interactions between art, science, new technologies and ecology; combining the exchange of knowledge, creativity and environmental issues, and trying to make the spectators relate to the materials through their senses and get closer to scientific discovery.
