100 FEMALE SCIENTISTS IN 100 SCHOOLS IN CATALONIA

TALK BY ADA E. YONATH, WINNER OF THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR CHEMISTRY

To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, more than 100 women working in science and technology will give talks simultaneously in 100 schools in Catalonia. Ada Yonath, winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, will open the session with a talk at the Josep Bota Centre, with pupils from Martí Pous secondary school and Can Fabra School, one of the 100 centres taking part in the event. Addressed to boys and girls in secondary education, her talk is aimed at stimulating their interest in science and reinforcing the visibility of girls and women in scientific disciplines. This is an unprecedented event in our schools for the promotion of scientific and technological vocations among teenagers.

This activity has a double purpose: making women in the world of science and technology visible, and at the same time encouraging boys’ and (especially) girls’ scientific and technological vocations.

Programme promoted by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Department of Education and the Barcelona Education Consortium, with the support of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology, STEMcat and Barcelona Activa.

The opening talk by Ada E. Yonath at Josep Bota Centre is not open to the public
