NANOMEDICINE OF THE FUTURE

Can a drug propel itself through the bloodstream? Are there medicines that release the main active ingredient only when necessary or which are activated by light? The medicine of the future will be personalized, with diagnostic platforms and portable control devices, and other technological advances that will make medical care cheaper, more effective and more comfortable. Bioengineering uses its tools, technologies and techniques to decipher the behaviour of proteins, cells, tissues and all the organs of the body, and to design solutions such as nanocapsules for the controlled delivery of drugs. Nano-bioengineering is the medicine of the future. In this workshop we shall see how researchers at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) are working to produce these drugs. Experts in nano-bioengineering will talk to us about nanomedicine and biomedicine and they will how us how to perform an experiment and to design a drug.
