What is a synchrotron? Using plain language and examples from everyday life, we shall learn how an electron accelerator works, how synchrotron light is obtained and how, when it interacts with matter, information is obtained from it that helps us to understand it better, to obtain more efficient drugs or more resistant materials. Montse Pont will illustrate her talk with examples taken from the research that is currently being done at the ALBA synchrotron, in Cerdanyola del Vallès.
