ILLUSTRATION AS A TOOL OF COMMUNICATION IN MEDICINE
When photography became consolidated technically as a mechanical, objective record of reality, the most important faculties of medicine were hiring medical artists. In the mid 20th century, the English-speaking world even went as far as creating medical illustrators’ associations. Is this job, negotiated between the doctor and the illustrator, still necessary today, when it comes to communicating science? To answer this question, we propose to take a look back in time that takes as its narrative axis examples taken from communicated medicine in Barcelona.
