Carme Jordi

Doctor of physics for the University of Barcelona, titular professor in the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics of the same university, a member of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC). Her research takes place in galactic astronomy and stellar physics, and in particular, in the physical characterization of stars and star clusters, the latter as tracers of the disk of the galaxy. This research is based on astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic observations made from observatories in Catalonia, Spain, Chile, Mexico, France and Hawaii, and from space. She has participated in space missions, such as Hipparcos and INTEGRAL of the European Space Agency (ESA), and she is currently a member of the scientific advisory body of the ESA for the Gaia project, which measures positions and movements of more than a billion stars in our galaxy. With the aim of bringing science to the whole of society, for years she has also taken part in educational activities for primary and secondary school pupils and in classes for elderly people.
